DIGESTIVE MASALA

(ADAPTED FROM DIVYA ALTARS' RECIPE)

I first learnt about this magical masala mix from my first Ayurvedic teacher Divya Altar - she has an incredible Ayurvedic restaurant in NYC and teaches authentic Ayurvedic Cooking courses! I have adjusted it a little, but the overall ingredients are the same.


In Ayurveda, spices are seen to be medicinal and having them as part of your daily diet is essential! Cumin, coriander and fennel are 'tridoshic' this means they are beneficial to all body types due to their cleansing and calming effects on the body. These spices strengthen digestion, have a balancing effect on all body types, and remove any undigested foods that could turn into toxins in the body.

This magical mix can be added to pretty much anything! From curries to drinks to snacks!☺️

🍽 S E R V I N G S

2 cups


🥗 I N G R E D I E N T S

1 cup cumin seeds (or you can use roasted cumin powder)

1 cup coriander seeds (or roasted coriander powder)

½ cup fennel seeds (fennel powder)

¼ cup nigella seed (kalonji) (optional)


🌿 T H E M A G I C

1. Dry roast spices in a cast iron pan till fragrant, then place all ingredients in a grinder or dry blender and grind into a fine powder

2. Store in a airtight jar and keep in a dry cupboard
