Racing game developer Codemasters is famous for creating impressive, if somewhat specialized games. With its recent acquisition by Electronic Arts, the studio aims to flex its newfound resources to make a game that will appeal to the masses.
Codemasters is the creator of the DiRT racing game series, the Grid franchise, Project Cars and the most simulation-inclined annual Formula 1 entries. According to some developer job openings, he is looking to fill two positions at the company. Both listings mention being part of a team that is developing a AAA game. One is for a non-creative "Development Manager" role described as a role that is primarily task tracking and management, the other is a "Senior Manager - Engineering" position on the creative side of game development. Both are based at the Codemasters Cheshire studio in Runcorn, England.
Both job listings state that this game is an unannounced AAA game, so Codemasters does not count Grid Legends, which was revealed at EA Play 2021 as that AAA game, even though it is ambitious for the studio. That game appears to have multiple driver career modes across a variety of racing disciplines and a multiplayer mode that offers mixed-discipline racing.
EA may or may not be thinking of handing over the reins of the Need for Speed franchise to its new studio. EA has been toying with who can develop that game since it decided to completely reboot the Need of Speed series in 2014 under Ghost Games, after two years of being created by Criterion Games. Criterion Games has been helping with Battlefield since 2018. Alternatively, EA could hand over the IP of the Burnout franchise to Codemasters, but any of those perspectives conflict with EA's earlier statement to allow the studio to remain independent.

Codemasters launched DiRT 5 in November 2020 while it was in the middle of a bidding war between Take-Two Interactive and EA, with the latter winning at the price of $ 1.2 billion, making the deal official in February. It then released F1 2021 which featured its first full single player story mode. Both games have strong communities backed by a strong history with Formula 1 fans and consistent content updates for DiRT 5, and Grid Legends is scheduled for release in 2022. So if there is no staff for that game, whatever it may be. This new AAA project will surely come sometime after that game and that year's F1 entry in 2023 or later.
